This course is ideal for people entering the industry and homeowners alike. It covers the essential maintenance and safe use of petrol or electric chainsaws.

In this course you’ll cover:
 

  • Current legislation and best practice

  • Step by step cleaning and inspection of your chainsaw

  • How to select the right chain

  • How to correctly sharpen the chain

  • Safe starting of the saw

  • Pre-use safe checks vital for safe operation

  • Cross cutting under tension and compression

  • Bore cutting techniques

Felling Trees upto 380mm 15" 
NPTC 39-21 Unit 202 / CS31

Duration: 4 days + 1 day assessment

Prerequisites:

  • NPTC Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross-cutting 39-20 / CS30

This course is great for advancing your career and to increase your knowledge of felling trees. You will learn important health and safely legislation, the hazards and risks involved and the technical aspects of felling trees. You will cover:
 

  • Current legislation

  • Hazard identification and risk management

  • Technical felling cuts on trees up to 200mm

  • Technical felling cuts on trees over 200mm and up to 380mm

  • The correct procedure for dealing with hung up trees

  • How to safely and effectively process trees once safely on the floor


We endeavor to cut on a variety of trees in different scenarios to provide a comprehensive and well-rounded understanding of felling and processing.

Chainsaw maintenance, Cross-cutting & Felling
NPTC 39-20, 21 Units 201, 202  CS30/31 

Duration: 5 Days + 1 days assessment

Price: £1100

Prerequisites:

  • None, although experience is preferable.


This intensive course is an amalgamation of Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross-cutting and Felling & Processing Small Trees up to 380mm . As such, it includes:
 

  • Health & Safety legislation

  • Step by step chainsaw cleaning and inspection

  • Safe starting and pre-use checks

  • Cross cutting under tension & compression with bore cuts

  • Felling trees with a variety of technical cuts

  • The correct procedure for dealing with hung up trees

  • How to process trees once safely on the floor


Make no mistake, you’ll be mentally and physically tired at the end of the week. There’s a lot of information to absorb so preparation is key.

All our ground based training courses, whether integrated or independent, include NPTC assessments as standard. That said, assessments can be optional for non commercial candidates such as home or land owners - please contact us for further details if you fall into these categories.
Our courses are designed for a maximum of four people. This allows our instructors to teach in a focused, effective way, on an individual level.
Please note that equipment and PPE is required for our courses, we do not hire out PPE - details of these requirements will be sent once booking is confirmed. Chainsaw and kit hire is also available if needed.
