Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue
NPTC 39-22 Units 203 / CS38

Duration: 6 days including 1 day assessment

Price: £925
Prerequisites:  

  • None, although experience is preferable on this more intensive course.


This course covers the health and safety aspects of tree climbing and aerial rescue, understanding which knots to use, and how to inspect and maintain climbing equipment, as well as the practical aspects of working in the canopy. This course will teach you:
 

  • The required health and safety knowledge

  • How to tie essential knots

  • Correct inspection of climbing gear

  • How to identify hazards in trees

  • How to ascend into and move around the canopy

  • Correct work positioning

  • How to perform aerial rescues 


This course is mentally and physically demanding, it can be quite intense in just one week if you've never climbed before. If this is the case we recommend the beginner's climbing course.

Beginner's Comprehensive Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue Course
NPTC 39-22 Units 203 / CS38

Duration: 8 days including 1 day assessment

Price: £1100
Prerequisites:  

  • None, although a head for heights is helpful!

 

This course is recommended for people with little or no experience of tree climbing. You will have plenty of time on this course to practice and get comfortable in the tree. You will learn different moving and static rope systems to safely access a tree, work within the canopy and perform aerial rescues. This course will teach you:

​

  • The required health and safety knowledge

  • How to tie essential knots

  • Proper inspection of climbing gear

  • How to identify hazards in trees

  • Combining DRT and SRT systems

  • How to ascend into and move around the canopy

  • How to perform aerial rescues 


This course is mentally and physically demanding, but also lots of fun! It will properly prepare you for tree climbing in the industry. Kit Hire is available on request.

SRT Climbing and Rescue

Lantra (SRWP) Stationary Rope Work Positioning

Duration: 3 days including assessment

Price: £650

Prerequisites:

  • NPTC Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue 39-22

Aimed at climbers eager to learn more and to be legally compliant. This course explores the most effective ways to work in the canopy, as well as the how to exploit the advantages static rope climbing offers. You’ll learn:
 

  • Current health and safety knowledge

  • A variety of useful base and tip ties

  • Efficient ascending and descending

  • Static and retrievable re-directs

  • How to achieve better work positioning

  • Extended tree climbing skills

  • Valuable knowledge that can enhance and extend your tree working career


Overall, SRT is a very useful tool to have at your disposal, and recommended for any professional arborist looking to add skills to their toolbox.

Aerial Chainsaw Cutting
NPTC 39-23 Unit 204 / CS39

Duration: 2 days + 1 day assessment

Price: £580
Prerequisites:

  • NPTC  39-20, 21, 22

 

An advanced aerial course that covers chainsaw work within a tree's canopy. This course focuses on better work positioning and accuracy of cuts. 

You’ll learn:

​

  • Current health and safety knowledge

  • Tree hazard evaluations

  • A variety of different cuts and their applications

  • How and when to use these cuts in various senarios

  • Practical experience applying this knowledge in the canopy

  • How to achieve better and safer work positioning in the canopy

  • How to produce accurate cuts working at height


Previous climbing experience is highly  recommended, as this course won’t cover climbing basics.

Aerial Pruning 
NPTC 39-31 Unit 302 / CS40

Duration: 2 days with intergrated assessment

Price: £530
Prerequisites:

 

​In this course you will learn to reach the outer canopy and be comfortable whilst carrying out a tip reduction. It's great for learning and improving pruning techniques, as well as achieving better work posistioning. This course will enable you to:
 

  • Apply current health and safety knowledge

  • Understand the relevant aspects of BS3998

  • Evaluate the tree for hazards

  • 'Read' a tree to visualise the potential inner crown

  • Understand the theory behind different cuts

  • Apply theoretical knowledge practically

  • Achieve improved work positioning

  • Achieve higher quality results


This course will allow you to complete good quality reductions as an arborist, and set you apart from the regular tree surgeon’s ‘stubby’ work.

Aerial Chainsaw Cutting and Aerial Pruning Combined
NPTC 39-23+33 / CS39, 40

Duration: 4 days with intergrated assessment + 1 day independent assessment

An intensive course that combines free-fall cutting techniques with the art of reductions. You’ll learn:
 

  • Current health and safety knowledge

  • Different cuts and their applications 

  • Various pruning techniques and the theory behind them

  • Achieve improved work positioning

  • How to apply these techniques in practice

  • Pruning techniques including thinning, re-pollarding and crown cleaning and reductions

  • How to identify tree species

  • How to identify and understand tree condition

  • When to prune a tree, based on the above factors

 

This comprehensive aerial cutting course is great for those looking to become a professional. It's all very well being able to chop a branch off but knowing where and why will stand you apart.

Aerial Rigging
NPTC 39-32 Unit 303 / CS41

Duration - 2 days + 1 day assessment

Price - £600
Prerequisites:

 

This advanced course is only recommended for those with at least one year’s climbing and cutting experience. During this course you’ll learn:
 

  • Current health and safety knowledge

  • Safe work positioning

  • Tree hazard evaluation

  • Knowledge of negative forces and timber reactions

  • Select the correct equipment

  • Construct compatible systems

  • Calculate strength loss within equipment

  • How to use tree structure to your advantage

All our aerial training courses, whether integrated or independent, include NPTC assessments as standard. That said, assessments can be optional for non commercial candidates such as recreational tree climbers - please contact us for further details.
Our courses are designed for a maximum of four people. This allows our instructors to teach in a focused, effective way, on an individual level.
Please note that equipment and PPE is required for our courses - details of these requirements will be sent once booking is confirmed. Kit hire is also available.
